Horiba Tocader’s EVO series TOC Analyzers for Pharmaceuticals or both in process and portable versions monitor organic pollution through the determination of the TOC of pure and ultrapure water, a fundamental requirement for quality assurance in the highest value-added productions such as the semiconductor industry. Water from the power plant sector and in the chemical industry also increasingly requires online monitoring of this parameter at very low range.

For immediate detection of out-of-specification TOCs in these critical productions, the most important requirement is a rapid response from analytical instrumentation: TOC analyzers based on UV oxidation and conductivity are ideal for this purpose. For example, water monitoring for cleaning and rinsing production plants (clean-in-place, CIP) is a classic application of TOC analyzers for pharmaceuticals.

In the pharmaceutical sector, moreover, the different water qualities are also defined according to different pharmacopoeias such as the European Pharmacopoeia (EP) or USP for the United States: PW (purified water), HPW (higly purified water) and WFI (water for injection) are common concepts and differential conductivity analyzers have established themselves on the market as the way to continuously check this water in accordance with pharmaceutical requirements. In addition to the analytical background, particularly important aspects are measurement availability, reliability and ease of maintenance.
