Yokogawa’s leading solution for predictive maintenance of pumps, the Cavitation Detection System, was recently recognised as the ‘Best Fluid Flow Technology’ at the Hydrocarbon Processing Awards in 2019. The HP Awards are a tribute to innovative technologies and people who have played an important role in improving plant processes over the past year. The winners were announced at the awards ceremony in Houston on 19 September 2019.

Cavitation in liquids causes damage to pumps. To minimize this damage, it is necessary to detect cavitation at an early stage and to take corrective measures, such as adjusting the flow rate. A problem, however, is that it is extremely difficult to quantify cavitation.

With our new Cavitation Detection System, which uses advanced analysis to interpret small pressure changes of cavitations, cavitation conditions can be revealed in time. By detecting cavitation earlier, quantifying information about it and displaying this data in real time, this system detects in a timely manner which aspects may hinder pump performance. By detecting problems at an early stage, this solution optimizes plant maintenance efficiency.
